Podcast Ideas...

While looking through my newsfeed on Facebook I can’t help but notice how people are constantly updating things of their lives, whether it’s going on vacation, going out, going to sleep, brushing their teeth, yada yada yada.  Everyone is talking about their new college life. The one thing that I notice the most is how people spend 99% of their time complaining about life and how much schoolwork they have. I would make a podcast about how people should start thinking about how fortunate they are to have made it this far in life, and how fortunate they are to be given the opportunity to go to school here at Chapel Hill. They signed up for their classes; they knew exactly what they were getting into, so why do they complain? I could talk about how millions of other people in the world don’t get this opportunity to such a great education and such a great experience. Don’t get me wrong, of course I complain about having to do a lot of work, but by creating this podcast I could just put out there that students who are in college anywhere for that matter, should be grateful for the fact that they are in college and they should be proud of the fact they made it this far, not complaining. I could also talk about how to balance school work with other activities because that seems to be a big issue among college students. Because there is so many activities that are always going on, it is easy to fall behind in school work or pull an all nighter in the Undergraduate Library. I could talk about how to schedule your time wisely so that you can get what needs to be done, but at the same time have time for fun and a social life.  Also I could bring up how to stay healthy. It is so tempting to grab five freshly baked M&M cookies in the cafeteria or go for a second serving of those delicious french fries.  Now is the time to start maintaining a healthy lifestyle, because your mom and dad aren’t here to feed you the nutritious meals they usually do.  Once you go off the deep end, it’s hard to go back. For starters everyone can lay off the cookies and fries every now (I’m guilty of this as well) and it won’t hurt to go exercise for 30 minutes or so. Those cookies and fries won’t go anywhere, the cafeteria will always have them so you will be able to reward yourself every once in a while, but don’t overload on them. Basically my goal for this podcast is to talk about college life and how to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Another idea for a podcast would talk about how celebrities have so much money, they buy things that are absolutely unnecessary. I got this idea from an article I saw on yahoo.com about Justin Bieber and what he spends all his money on (article: http://new.music.yahoo.com/blogs/stopthepresses/392266/fly-like-justin-bieber-for-just-19000-a-trip/). From spending thousands of dollars on birthday parties for their four-year-old children to spending hundreds of thousands of dollars for a watch with their own face encrusted with diamonds on it or spend millions on a car that you only drive a couple times a year, celebrities just don’t know what to do with it all! Yeah sure they donate lots of money to charities and all but a lot of the time they spend it on just a bunch of stuff. Hey, if I was that rich I would definitely do the same thing.  Why do people feel the urge to just go out and by “stuff” that they don’t even need like watches that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars or a thousand dollars on a see through tank top that you could find off the street for free. I could talk about things that are okay to splurge on and things that are an absolute waste of money. I could categorize the things like accessories/jewelry, cars, electronics, etc. you get the picture.  I don’t mean to sound like a creep but following celebrities has become a hobby for me over the years.  I think it’s so much fun to just read up on the newest gossip and see who has what and all that. It has just always intrigued me, so I think that it would be so awesome to make a podcast about them. Better yet I could make a podcast about celebrities in general. I could talk about not only what things they spend their money on but I could talk about what makes them different from an “average” person. Although people talk about how celebrities are “normal” people, in reality they aren’t sometimes. “Normal” people don’t get custom watches with their face encrusted in diamonds in it or rent out the ENTIRE Staples Center for one date to watch the Titanic. Whatever they say, “oh I’m just a normal person” they aren’t and they know that; they are just trying to be humble about their riches. What makes it ok for them to spend millions of dollars on a house that they only really use two or three rooms of?  Or what makes it ok for them to use their kids to get there fame (Jon and Kate Gosselin…)? I’m sure many of the celebrities actually truly worked their way up to the top, but many were just a shoe in and went through nothing in order to get their fame and fortune.

While listening to Pandora on the internet, I thought that I could do a podcast about different music stations, which ones I would recommend, and sort of categorize certain stations for certain moods and for certain events. I have been listening to the Jason Mraz station non-stop and every song is literally a great song.  I could then maybe go into the history of music and talk about how music has changed through generations and how certain people have influenced the pop culture forever (i.e. Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, and Lady Gaga…yes that is right, I said Lady Gaga). I could then go on and talk about how moods have a great influence on what kind of music you want to listen to.  I know it has a great influence on what I listen to. If you’re working out you don’t want to listen to Jack Johnson or Colbie Callait and when you’re trying to study you don’t want to be listening to crazy techno/club music.  I love music, I can’t go a day without listening to music. I listen to music for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and everything in between. I could then talk about what life would be like without music. I mean I'm not really sure what life would be like, but I'm guessing it wouldn't be too great. I mean what would movies, sports, clubs, pretty much everything be like without it? Music is one of the most important aspects of movies, they can build up suspense to a certain scene, they can show the mood of the characters and the scene. If movies didn't have music, they most certainly wouldn't have the same affect as if it had music. If life had no music, clubs wouldn't even exist; random dance parties in dorm rooms wouldn't exist. Music is a way for people to express themselves and relieve stress. Without it imagine how much more angry people there would be in this world. Overall, I think that the major point of my podcast would to talk about the importance of music, and how much it truly affects everyone's lives, along with the recommendations of Pandora stations.
