In the video "This Shining" Redux, arrangements of the clips and music make the horror film out to be a romantic comedy. The rhetorical strategy used is pathos. The music and the editing, from the up-beat happy music to where the man (Jack Nicholson) looks like he cares for his family instead of wanting to murder them, change everything emotionally.
Arrangement is one of the five canons of classical rhetoric...
ReplyDeleteWhen we look to definitions of rhetoric there's often a nod to "argument" and "persuasion"...Do you think that "Shining Redux" is making any sort of argument?
I don't think it's making an argument, but I do think that the video is making a persuasion. The video is trying to persuade the viewer to believe that this movie "The Shining" is a romantic comedy, when in fact it is a horror/thriller.
